An Interview with Moat Academy's Alumna, Rukayat Jimoh, Now a Software Developer
Can we meet you?
My name is Jimoh Rukayat, I am a graduate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Soil Science and Land Management (SSLM) department and I am a Full stack Developer.
What were you doing before coming to Moat Academy?
Well, before coming to Moat Academy I was teaching in a private secondary school.
What is the name of your current company and role?
I work at Uniswitch as a Fullstack Developer.
What exactly do you want to achieve with the software development skills?
I want to build or perhaps contribute to building web Application(s) that solve(s) the problems of multitude that use it/them.
Why did you choose Moat Academy for Developers?
Moat Academy trained one of the people that I look up to in the industry.
How have things changed for you since gaining software development skills?
For the few months that I’ve dived into software development, life has really changed for me, like I can do things I couldn’t do before without having to check again, though I haven’t gotten to where I want to be but I know with time and experiences I’ll go beyond what I see for myself by the grace of God.
What was your biggest fear before coming to Moat Academy and what do you feel about it now?
Hmmmm! My biggest fear before Moat Academy was FAILURE!
How will you describe your experience in Moat Academy?
I would describe my experience at Moat Academy as a very tasking one, because I had to Learn, Unlearn and Relearn every day.
What have you been able to achieve with the training?
I have been gaining hands on experiences and contributed to building two web applications(name withheld) which would be launched soon.
Can you share your experiences with us since you graduated from Moat Academy?
I started applying for jobs immediately after graduation, I had interviews with different companies and I got a remote job with a company (name withheld... smiles) as a Frontend Engineer 12 days after Moat Academy and to the glory of God, life has been good since after the training!
What advice do you have for those coming into Moat Academy?
I would advise those coming to Moat Academy to be ready to learn and never miss a class for any reason. It’s not going to be easy but with dedication it will be easy and to always PRACTICE.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I hope to be a Senior Software Engineer working for one of the biggest technology companies. (smiles)
