“I Learned the How and the Why”: Emmanuel Fajumo on His Journey from Moat Academy to a Career in Software Development

Emmanuel in his own words

My name is Emmanuel Fajumo. I am a software developer with a background in Mathematical Science and a passion for technology, problem-solving, and building digital solutions that help businesses and individuals achieve their goals.

I am particularly interested in full-stack web development, and I enjoy turning ideas into functional, user-friendly websites and applications.

Before coming to Moat Academy, I had just completed my NYSC programme. I had also worked on a few freelance projects, building and maintaining WordPress websites for clients.

However, I wanted to move beyond what I already knew and develop a deeper understanding of software development, particularly programming and backend technologies. That was one of the major reasons I decided to pursue formal training in software development.

I currently work at Evaluate Media, where I serve as a Junior Web Developer.

My role involves working on website development projects and contributing to the company's digital solutions. It also gives me the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I gained during my training while continuing to learn and improve as a developer.

At the moment, my goal is to work with a software development company where I can contribute to and grow in the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and reliable products that work and solve real problems.

In the long run, I want to build software products that address real-world challenges, particularly those affecting businesses and individuals in Nigeria and beyond.

I chose Moat Academy because I wanted a more structured and practical approach to learning software development. My uncle also recommended the academy to me.

I was looking for an environment where I could move beyond theory, work on real projects, learn from experienced instructors, and interact with other people who were also pursuing careers in technology.

I also wanted to challenge myself, build a solid technical foundation, and prepare for opportunities in the software development industry.

Software development has changed the way I approach technical problems. I have become more comfortable breaking down complex problems into smaller tasks, thinking through possible solutions, and applying best practices.

Professionally, the skills I gained have also helped me take on development projects with greater confidence and pursue opportunities in the software development industry.

I would describe my experience at Moat Academy as a journey of structured learning, growth, and personal and career development.

The tutors are experienced, and the learning process was well structured. Their mode of teaching was top-notch. I didn't just learn the how; I also learned the why.

The leadership and career sessions were also a great help throughout my learning journey.

The training has helped me strengthen my development skills, improve my approach to projects, and work with greater confidence.

I now approach technical challenges with a better understanding of how to develop solutions, including web applications and websites.

One significant achievement for me has been taking the skills I acquired at Moat Academy into a professional environment and applying them in my current role as a Junior Web Developer at Evaluate Media.

Since graduating from Moat Academy, my confidence in taking on web application projects and

applying for software development roles has improved significantly.

Before joining the academy, I would come across job openings and often feel that I wasn't qualified enough to apply. But after going through the programme, I developed a better understanding of how web applications work, and I became more confident in my ability to build them.

I can now approach projects and job opportunities with a different mindset, knowing that I have the skills and foundation to contribute, take on development tasks, and continue growing as a software developer.

I see myself becoming a more experienced and well-rounded software developer, capable of designing and building complex applications and contributing meaningfully to impactful projects.

I also hope to have developed and launched software products that solve real-world problems, while continuing to grow professionally and share my knowledge with other aspiring developers.

Ultimately, I want to build a career where I am not just writing code, but using technology to create meaningful solutions and make a positive impact.

The journey continues.
