An interview with our Alumnus, Charles Chianugor (now a software developer at ASQ)
Can we meet you?

My name is Charles Chianugor, I am a software developer. I was a part of the cohort14 Bootcamp which was concluded in August 2020. I currently work with ASQ as a Software Developer/ Database Administrator.

What were you doing before coming to Moat Academy?

I was working with a logistics firm as a logistics officer. I was into the clearing of imported shipments with Nigerian Custom service.

What exactly do you want to achieve with the software development skills?

I have always loved technology and IT, and have also wanted to be that person that solves real-life problems and I knew that being a skilled Software Developer would put me in that platform. So, I decided to go for it.

Why did you choose Moat Academy for Developers?

When I made up my mind to go for this program, I made a lot of research on the institution where I can get the best training. I was introduced to Moat Academy by a friend and I went through it course modules and the trainer profile which was very captivating. And at the end of the day, I got the best from Moat Academy.

How has things changed for you since gaining software development skills?

I began seeing things differently; I gained some level of confidence within me. During the course of my learning, I got to understand what time management is all about and this has helped me to develop some principles which I must adhere to in order to succeed in this journey. And for the first time I had this belief that I can easily get my dream job which actually came through.

What was your biggest fear before coming to Moat Academy and what do you feel about it now?

"What if I fail to acquire the skills after quitting my job?" That was the biggest fear I had before going to Moat Academy. But I'm so happy today that I conquered that fear and now I can see the endless opportunities I couldn’t imagine then. Right now, I feel fulfilled doing what I love and being paid for it at the same time.
How will you describe your experience in Moat Academy?

At Moat Academy, I had the privilege to be mentored by professionals in the industry, with best learning practices which kept me on my toes. A lot of soft skill training and the real coding classes were exceptionally beneficial. I can remember how I do get angry in class when I am lagging behind, And I could barely hide my emotions. But at the end I got to realize that the more I get emotional the more I lag behind so I worked on being free and open to learn and Paying Attention to Details

What have you been able to achieve with the training?

Well, some of my achievements so far have been self-confidence, time management, debugging skills, development/implementation of web applications and getting myself a good job barely 2month after my training at Moat Academy. And I know I have a lot to achieve in a short time.
Can you share your experiences with us since you graduated from Moat Academy?
After my time at Moat Academy, I started studying more about software development and mastering all I learnt from Moat Academy. I developed my website and started a personal project which has been completed too.
What advice do you have for those coming into Moat Academy?

My advice for anybody coming into Moat Academy is to appreciate and follow their training guidelines, never miss the soft skill classes and be open to learning. Avoid getting angry in class, that's a whole lot of distraction, face your challenges and get it right on a daily basis, do not procrastinate. I'm very sure that at the end you will be glad you chose Moat Academy.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years' time I see myself developing and implementing applications solving so many real-life problems in our society.
