One such story is that of Sodiq Rukayat Gbemishola (a member of our just concluded boot camp, cohort 31), often referred to as Rayya, currently a Backend Developer at Meezak Technologies, whose path into tech began with a daring decision to leave behind the familiar and follow something greater.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We caught up with Rayya to learn more about her journey\u00a0-from data entry to software<\/a> development\u00a0and the critical role Moat Academy played in shaping her future<\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

A Transition from Routine to Innovation<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Rayya previously worked as a Data Entry Executive for a mechanical and electrical engineering firm before transitioning to software development. Though the job sharpened her attention to detail, it lacked the creative and problem-solving opportunities she desired.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"<\/i><\/span>I wanted more than just inputting data-I wanted to create, solve problems, and build things that mattered,\" she revealed. \"That desire is what led me to software development.\"<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

\"My biggest fear was whether I'd find another job after quitting the one I had,\" she admitted \"But that step of faith turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made.\"<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

The Academy did more than just teach her how to code; it changed the way she thought, tackled challenges, and worked<\/a> with people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overcoming Challenges of Starting<\/span><\/b>

Rayya revealed that\u00a0her journey into technology has been anything but easy, from resigning her job to borrowing a laptop and going weeks without electricity. However, she persevered with the support\u00a0of Moat Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"<\/i><\/span>I've stopped making excuses. I stayed focused, borrowed what I could, and surrounded myself with inspiration and a purpose. That mindset kept me going.\"<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Life After Moat: From Classroom to Industry<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Rayya has progressed significantly since graduating from Moat Academy. She's found a full-time position as a Backend Developer while at the same time working on paid gigs to keep honing her skill set.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"By God\u2019s grace, I\u2019ve been able to land both a paid gig and a full-time position as a Backend Developer. I\u2019ve also built real-world projects that strengthened my portfolio and confidence as a developer.\"<\/i> she explained. \"I now work daily on backend systems, and I'm even exploring AI integration,\" she said. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Far from slowing down, Rayya keeps pushing herself - learning, building, and engaging with other developers to stay ahead in this lucrative field. <\/span><\/p>\n

Vision for the Future<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

When asked where she sees herself in five years, Rayya gave a straightforward and confident response.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI aim to become a recognized AI-driven Software Engineer and Tech Advocate, building intelligent, user-centered solutions that shape how people interact with technology. I also hope to use my journey to inspire more young Nigerians especially women to embrace tech and innovation.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Her interest isn't only about personal development; it's also about giving back, breaking stereotypes, and creating opportunities for others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for Aspiring Developers<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
